Organ Cave - 18 miles from Psalm 23 Camp

All tours are guided in this historic cave. This cave was discovered in 1704, was explored by Thomas Jefferson and was used during the wars of 1812 and the Civil war as a source of salt petre to make gun powder. This is one of the longest caves in the United States with about 40 miles of mapped passageways.

Guided tours take visitors through cathedral-like passages, past calcite formations, and through a preserved saltpeter excavation. Good walking shoes and a jacket are all that are required. Cave temperature remains 55 degrees year round.

Lost World Caverns - 30 miles from Psalm 23 camp

Lost World Caverns proves self-guided and private tours. The self-guided tour takes about 45 minutes. This main show cave is about 1000 feet long and 300 feet wide. Wild cave expeditions are are about 4-5 hours long and must be scheduled in advance. Wild caving is much more difficult and requires special prepration.

This cave is located near Interstate 64 at Lewisburg, WV. In fact, a portion of the cave is beneath I-64.

Two of the five commercial caves in West Virginia are located within 30 miles of Psalm 23 Camp. Those two are listed here with a brief description.

These commercial caves offer visitors a enjoyable and easy way to experience the many wonders found underground. Year round temperatures are 52-55 degrees.

For those interested in more adventure then a wild cave expedidtion can give that experience, but it is not for the faint hearted. Make sure you learn more before you make such a reservation.

Organ Cave and Lost World Caverns are only about 12 miles apart for those who may wish to explore both caves in one day.
