Head For The Hills

September 11, 2005. Most everyone has opinions about the aftermath of hurricane Katrina that wrecked such havoc on the gulf coast. It is obvious that you are foolish to believe our governments, local, state and federal can be your "Daddy" in times of crisis. You had better make some preparations for yourself. Many are hammering these governments for not doing more to protect the victims of that disaster. In fact, I am capable of doing such myself. Before I throw any more punches at government let me say that it is the government, is it not, that tracks storms and gives us warnings. Kudos for this fine service.

When someone yells, "Fire" in a burning building, then you need to heed the warning. If you feed a kitten table scraps or canned cat food then they will likely die when winter arrives on the farm if the feeding is discontinued. On the other hand a farm cat that is never fed by humans will do just fine hunting for the red meat it lives on. Apparently, a large number of people living in New Orleans have been raised like hand-fed kittens on a farm, not knowing how to care for themselves because a corrupt government kept them on the dole.

Now I'll admit ignorance as to how New Orleans developed over the years, but I do recall my only visit there a few years ago. One impression I got there was the apparent folly of living that close to the shore and below sea level. So why be surprised when a category 4 hurricane slams water into the second story of your house. Anyway, I live on a mountain with my own set of challenges with weather related disasters. As a farmer, I plan for months in advance as to how I prepare for a monster snow storm that may come the next winter. No government should be expected to make those plans for me, my family, my dogs and my sheep flock.

Rightly so, many are now expressing their concern for what would happen if terrorists set off a few nuclear devices at populated cities around the U.S. Most realize now that you cannot depend on the government to be much help. Sad, but it seems to be true at this point.

The U.S. Congress has already spent enough borrowed money to put your children and grandchildren in debt to a total of $145,000 per person. The government in the U.S. confiscates more than 40 percent of workers wages (to pay the interest on that debt). They also own about 40 percent of the land in America. All that land, all that money, all that debt heaped upon our grandchildren and what do we get? We get a Homeland Security Bureaucracy that snatches finger nail files from little old ladies boarding planes, and a political machine that wants to do nothing about the millions of illegal aliens crossing the border with Mexico every year.

I have way more formal education than I need, but one thing formal training fails to impart is wisdom. The Bible is clear about that, if you want wisdom, seek God for it. Frankly, Americans lack wisdom, and too many have rejected the very God that can give that to them. I'm not telling you how to vote in the next election, but I am suggesting you seek out God today and walk with him daily.....and that's.........
