Opt Out?

April 12, 2005. To put it mildly, I get a little exasperated with Christians who are always wanting to see public schools change to suit their needs and desires. Rebecca Hagelin of the Heritage Foundation provides a case for my point. I often read what this lady has to say about culture and Christianity. In an interview on the Sean Hannity radio show I heard her talk about the difficulties she and her family have with the public school system.

Hagelin related an experience whereby her 13-year old daughter opted out of a sex education segment of some course at the local public school. That decision was made after the Hagelins learned of some of the things that were to be taught. Fine, I commend the family for its good judgment in that incidence. Hagglin went on to suggest that other parents need to make such decisions. There is a problem here. By her own admission, the Hagelin family was the only one in the daughter's class that opted out of the ungodly training. Are the Hagelins not able to recognize a broken system when they see one? It is a little like telling someone to search through a garbage can and recommending you only pick out the uneaten biscuits that have no teeth marks on them.

Opt out of public school sex education classes? NO! If Christians are to opt out of anything, it should be the entire public school system, not simply the most obvious things which seem to surface with increased frequency......and that's.......
